Final results for the open call for Pivô Research Grant 2019

Pivô is pleased to announce that Alice Yura and Mariana Portela Echeverri are the selected artists for Pivô Research Grant, 2019.

The selection committee was composed by artist Débora Bolsoni, curator Ivo Mesquita and Fernanda Brenner and Camila Bechelany, from Pivô’s curatorial team. They analyzed 125 applications in total to award one grant to one non-Brazilian Latin American artist and one grant for a Brazilian artist not living in Rio de Janeiro or  São Paulo states.

Nicanor Araóz was the artist invited by Pivô through a residency grant.

Alice Yura is Brazilian and lives in Campo Grande. She has been dedicating herself to performance and it developments in photography and installation to reflect on issues of gender and identity. Her work is articulated with an original reading of Hannah Arendt’s philosophy.

Mariana Portela Echeverri is Colombian and currently lives in Medellín. Her artistic research is dedicated to understanding different forms of violence (cultural, political and physical) and their articulation with desire, children’s universe and the sensitive and dreamlike dimension of the world.

Nicanor Aráoz is Argentine and lives in Buenos Aires. He works with different media, such as sculpture, installation, painting and drawing. His work is characterized by a dramatic visuality that combines references as antagonistic as comics, surrealism and gothic aesthetics.
